How to get a visa for Thailand

Most of travellers make a round trip in Thailand to get to know the different sides of the country. If you’re traveling to Thailand, there are some practical issues that you have to take into account.

Practical tips before departing 

Required documents for a trip to Thailand

  • Both Belgian- and Dutch travelers must have their own international passport with validity not less than 6 months on the day of arrival
    Please note: the name on your passport need to match the name on your flight ticket!
    Extra tip: always bring a copy of your passport or put it online
  • No visa requirement for stays of up to 30 days. You need a visa when you stay longer than 30 days

How to get a passport?

You can apply for a passport at your municipality, most of the time by appointment. You must have a passport to prove your identity in countries where your eID is not enough.

When to apply for a passport

On average, the delivery time for a passport is about 2 weeks. To be sure everything will be on time, we always apply (more than) one month before departure.
If you depart last minute, you need to make an urgent request. The request must be sent before 3.00 pm, so you can pick up your passport at the municipality the next working day.

What’s the price of a passport?

The price depends on the municipal tax and is different for each municipality. Usually the price varies between 70 and 90 euros. For exact prices you should surf to the website of your municipality.

The emergency procedure is quite expensive and costs 270 euros for adults and 240 euros for an infant.

How long is an international passport valid?

– for adults: 7 years
– for minors: 5 years

How can I apply for a visa?

A visa is the official permission to stay in a specific country for a certain period of time. Whether you need a visa for your trip to Thailand depends on the length of your stay.

I stay in Thailand for 30 days or less

If you fly to Thailand from Belgium or the Netherlands, you’ll automatically get a 30-day visa on arrival as a tourist at the airport. This type of visa is sometimes called visa-on-arrival.

If you travel to Thailand by land, you get a free visa for 2 weeks at the border. You must keep a part of the white card or keep it in your passport. If you leave the country they will put it out your passport. When arriving at the airport they will take a picture of you with a webcam.

Which documents should I bring to complete my application for a visa

The only thing you need to complete your application is a valid passport:
– address, name, gender, date of issue, date of expiry, place of birth, date of birth, authority, address of stay, how many days you stay, status, …
– color passport photo

How much will cost your Thailand visa?

Not many things in life are free, but the visa for stays of up to 30 days is completely free.

How long is a tourist visa valid for?

In general, the validity of a visa is 30 days.

 

I stay in Thailand more than 30 days

You need a visa if:

  • you stay in Thailand more than 30 days
  • want to go to Thailand several times in a shorter period (30 days or more)
  • have not booked a return flight
  • are traveling for business

There are 3 types of tourist visa:

1 ° Single entry visa

This type of visa entitles you to a maximum stay of 59 days in Thailand, where you only stay in Thailand.

2 ° Double entry visa

You can visit other countries and return to Thailand where you can stay 59 in the country again.

3° Businessvisum

If you want to work in Thailand or want to do business.

Where can I obtain a visa?

  • commercial visa office
  • at the Thai embassy
  • the Thai consults, where one is in Berchem (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwstraat 2, 2600 Berchem) and the other one in Brussels (Waterloosesteenweg 876, 1000 Brussel)

Which documents should I bring to complete my application for a visa

  • a valid visa for at least 6 months
  • 3 recent passport photos
  • the completed application form in duplicate
  • a copy of your plane ticket
  • in case of a visa with several courses, they ask sometimes for proof of good behavior and morals
  • business visa: an official invitation letter (ENG/NL) of the company you are working for and a copy of the articles of association of the company you work for

How much will cost your Thailand visa?

A single entry visa costs 30 euros, a double entry visa costs 60 euros and 90 euros for a visa with 3 entrances. The prices for a business visa are slightly higher, namely 60 euros for one entrance visa and 120 euros for a multiple entrance visa.

How long is a tourist visa valid for?

The single entry visa is valid for 59 days, with the double entry visa you can stay 2 or 3 times 59 days in Thailand. When traveling to Thailand for business, this visa is valid from 3 months to 1 year. The duration depends on the decision of the consulate.
