Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach Phuket – Being a King or Queen in Phuket

13 October 2016

Exotic Southern Thailand

Phuket was our first destination in Southern Thailand. We had seen and read a lot about the exotic white sand beaches, clear blue waters, picturesque villages and impressive underwater fauna and flora. You will also find one of the most beautiful national parks of Thailand about 2.5 hours from Phuket. This is named Khao Sok National Park and is located in the province of Surat Thani. We went to visit this park, after our stay at the super deluxe Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach.

We took a plane from Chiang Mai to Phuket to save time. If you search well, you can find a fairly cheap tickets through Bangkok Airways or Air Asia. If you have enough time and prefer to travel cheap, you can take the (night) train to Bangkok (13-14 hours) and afterwards the bus to Phuket (± 13 hours). Please note that this kind of traveling is very cheap, but takes a lot of time.

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach is, as the name suggests, located at Bangtao Beach. This is a long beach of 6 km, located on the western side of Phuket. It is only a few minutes from the center of Cherng Talay, where many people still live off fishing, farming and the rubber industry. This is in contrast to the area around the famous lagoon, where the resort is located. Here are several large luxury resorts, where tourists can enjoy their vacation. From the airport to Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach takes a 20 minutes drive. We took the taxi, but inform yourself by serval taxi companies before you make your choice! Some (say most) are too expensive, so you better look further before you make your choice. It’s a good idea to inform yourself well in advance about the distance from the hotel and the correct price for this ride. So you have an idea about the price and the chance of paying too much is lower. Except for the taxi, you can also take the ‘minivan’. Most of the time this is a cheaper option than a private taxi, but the journey takes longer because everyone in the minivan has to be dropped off at their own destination. Oh well, you can chat with your fellow travelers to make it more pleasant. Who knows, you might learn some fun facts!

Welcome to Paradise

In ‘Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach’ we received a warm welcome from the Mövenpick team. We got a sort of bracelet with flowers, a cool towel and of course a traditional cup of tea. It’s a very impressive and exclusive luxury residence, which combines Thai influences with contemporary designs. You can describe this hotel as luxurious, modern, classy and pure enjoyment. This resort has 40 suites and penthouses, where you can fully relax and enjoy the wonderful Thai climate. Although, I must be honest… Personally, I had some difficulties adapting to these tropical temperatures and the “tropical monsoon climate”. These are fairly long dry periods and a real rainy season, in which there is quite a lot of rain (also known as monsoon). We didn’t have many problems with this, but the weather is so unpredictable and the periods of rain are also very local. So, don’t pay too much attention to the weather forecast, because there is a good chance that it is not what they predicted . No worries, most of the time the weather is really beautiful in Thailand and one thing we know for sure, it’s never cold!  You can enjoy the Thai sun in an idyllic setting at the Bangtao beach, because the hotel is next to it. The beach is 6 km long, making it ideal for a morning run or a romantic beach walk. Are you curious about our romantic walk on the beach? Make sure you watch the video!

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach offers 8 different types of rooms, namely the Classic Residences – 1 bedroom King, Residences – 2 bedrooms, Residences – 3 bedrooms, Seaview Pool Suites – one bedroom, Seaview Pool Suites – 2 bedrooms, Seaview Jacuzzi Penthouse and the best of all “Royal Seaview Jacuzzi Penthouse”. As you can read, this resort has several residences, to make long stays possible and comfortable. All residences and suites are very spacious and fully equipped, so it feels like home with the luxury!

We stayed in the ‘Seaview Pool Suite’, this beautiful suite can be described in just one word “WOW”. This magnificent residence has a private pool, sea view and all the luxury you can imagine! The ideal combination! This suite has a surface of 216 m2, this is not a typing error, and includes a large kitchen, living room, bedroom with king size bed, bathroom, terrace and private pool of 22 m2 (3.4m x 6.6m). Everything is finished with high quality material, which leads to a sublime entirety. When the manager showed us this suite, our jaws dropped. We had never seen a room this large and luxurious and … really anything you want! Here, you really feel like a king!

Over-The-Top Penthouse

We got the chance to take a look in the largest and most luxurious room in Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach, the Royal Jacuzzi Penthouse. The name says it already, this was over the top. ” This penthouse is the definition of rich and luxurious living. With 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a private jacuzzi on the terrace, sea view, a kitchen, a living room (read ‘ballroom’) and dressing, so there is a risk you don’t want to leave or go out this amazing suite. This huge penthouse has a surface of 360 m2 for 7 people, but in my opinion you can even bring some friends with you.

King of the world

Both the resort and the service are really great! If you need something or have a question, they are ready to help immediately. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and welcoming. They bring you a free drink given by the house around 4 pm, if you are lying by the pool. Water is replenished twice a day, the rooms are thoroughly cleaned daily and even the dishes are done. We could get used to this!  We must admit that there is even a dishwasher. The resort pays attention to the smallest details, which makes your stay very pleasant and make the resort’s 5 stars more than deserved.

Excursions and tours can be arranged by the reception. We had booked our tour to Koh Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Monkey Island with lunch on a private island with them. It’s a fun experience to see all these famous places from movies as “The Beach”. Of course, everyone wants to visit these places, and especially the Chinese people. On the famous Maya Bay, it was very, very busy. We had to make an effort to take this picture, without too many people or selfie sticks on it.  Actually, we had an empty beach with in the background a typical traditional Thai boat in mind. Afterwards we found out that this is only possible if you come to this place very early (6:30), before all the tourists arrive by speedboats at around 8:00 am.

Just keep swimming

Centrally located in the resort is the 48-meter pool with a pool bar, where you can enjoy a delicious cocktail or milkshake. For the sporty types among us, you can swim a few kilometers in this pool! But after these 48 meters, you will arrive again and again at the pool bar. So be aware of the temptation and just keep swimming. For those who prefer to enjoy the peace of their vacation, you may settle down in one of the many four-poster beds. These are next to the pool and covered, so you do not have to lie in the sun.

The Palm Cuisine and Terrace restaurant

There is one restaurant called ‘The Palm Cuisine and Terrace‘ where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can choose whether you want to eat inside or outside, where you have the view of the giant swimming pool. The buffet breakfast offers you a great variety of all kinds of food, you will absolutely find something you like! Also, they serve different dishes every day, so you never get full. There are various types of drinks available, you can choose tea, coffee, water, fruity drinks and many many more. Eggs are made live the way you want it, just like the pancakes and waffles for the sweet lovers. The dishes are very fine, elegant and beautifully presented. Both traditional Thai and Western dishes are served. Furthermore, the hotel organizes special events such as a BBQ at the pool with different chefs that you can see live. If you want to go out and have dinner, there are several restaurants nearby. You can best make a reservation in advance and they will pick you up from your hotel and bring you back again. So you don’t have to pay extra for a taxi.

Sport till you drop

Mövenpick Resort Bangtao Beach has a very nice and modern gym, where you can work out these ‘potential pounds of the good life’. If you don’t have much experience with fitness, you can always count on the help of a personal trainer from the hotel itself! After a tough workout you can always cool off in the swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi or steam room as they all belong to the gym. The gym is open from 6:00 am – 9.00 pm, so you can perfectly plan an activity and go for a work-out before or afterwards.

Traditional Thai Massage

After an exhausting day, you can enjoy a relaxing massage at the spa. They have place for both couples and individuals. Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy the spa due to time constraints, but it all looked very well and zen!

Conclusion of staying at Mövenpick Resort Bangtao beach: to call this hotel a 5 stars hotel is really not exaggerated, with the super friendly staff and amazingly large suites! There is a risk you don’t want to leave this place.

Fun fact: people looking for the ultimate luxury, you can hire a private chef to prepare a delicious meal. But… we made ourselves some pizza and pasta carbonara.
