Ubud, the cultural center of Bali and perfect place to explore the rest of Bali. We stayed at The Payogan Villa Resort & Spa which is located just outside the center of Ubud, namely in Kedewatan Ubud Bali. This hotel was one of the first large and luxurious hotels in Ubud, completely surrounded by nature and 10-minuts away from the center.

The Payogan Villa Resort & Spa has 45 traditional private villas on a 7-hectare property. In this resort nature is central, the different villas are surrounded by the real jungle and the landscape is traversed by two separate river flows. The whole resort is in harmony with the environment, making you feel one with nature.
The hotel offers several golf carts to take you to all places of the resort, which is in total 7 hectares of timeless landscape. You can call them and they will be at your door within 5 minutes! This is certainly practical for people who have difficulties with walking. The hotel also offers a shuttle service to take their guests to the center of Ubud. It departs at 10 am, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm and pick-up at 10.30 am, 2.30 pm, 4.30 pm, 6.30 pm, 8.30 pm.

Spacious Villas
There are 4 types of private villas, namely one bedroom garden villa, one bedroom pool villa, two bedroom pool villa and three bedroom pool villa. We stayed in the one bedroom pool villa with a beautiful view over the jungle. Every morning you get up with the sounds of the jungle, which gives a special feeling! The villas are huge! They have a king-size bed, table, mini bar DVD player, TV, … so everything you need. The biggest plus of this hotel is the private veranda, garden pavilion with a pool, overlooking the breathtaking valley full of tropical plants and animals. 
Since the hotel has been an established name in Ubud for years, the hotel also has some age. The hotel needs some renovation in certain areas in order to compete with other 5 * hotels in Ubud.

This marble bathroom is ridiculously large with a large shower and gigantic bath, which you can easily use with 2! As you read, everything is very spacious, in general it is time to refresh everything.

In the middle of the resort, you’ll find the infinity pool, where you can take some refreshment and enjoy a view of the tropical jungle! This pool is located next to the restaurant and the spa.

Start the day with a good Breakfast
Breakfast at The Payogan Villa’s Resort & Spa is quite varied, including fresh fruit, hot dishes, bread, coffee cakes,.. They will make your egg live as you wish. Of course there are several fresh drinks, but tea and coffee are also served. Breakfast takes place from 7 am to 11 am, lunch from 11 am to 3 pm and dinner from 7 pm to 11 pm. Furthermore, the typical English concept ‘Afternoon Tea‘ is also offered from 3 pm to 6 pm. Ideal if you start to get a bit hungry in the afternoon 
. Finally, there is also ‘Happy hour’ every day from 5 pm to 7 pm. We only had breakfast, so we can not say anything about the other dishes.

Our general conclusion of The Payogan Villa Resort & Spa is mixed. On the one hand, this hotel has a lot of character and potential. The location is truly unique, even though it is a bit further away from the center of Ubud. On the other hand, there is an urgent need for some renovation and embellishment! This 5 star hotel can no longer compete with other 5 star hotels (such as Komaneka at Tanguyada) which are much better maintained.
